Suspect Arrested In Shooting At Naugatuck Gas Station: Police

NAUGATUCK, CT — A 27-year-old Naugatuck man was arrested on weapons and assault charges in connection with a Jan. 1 shooting at a Mobil gas station on South Main Street, according to police. No injuries were reported in the 3 a.m. shooting, which involved a dispute between the suspect and another man. Arrested was Derrick D. Colson, of Andrew Avenue, who was charged with the following: Carrying a pistol without a permitIllegal discharge of a firearmIllegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicleCriminal attempt at first-degree assaultSecond-degree breach of peaceFirst-degree reckless endangermentThird-degree assaultPolice were called to the gas station on the report of the dispute. "During the course of the dispute, it escalated and moved into the parking lot of the gas station where Colson is alleged to have produced a pistol and discharged a round at the other male in the dispute," Naugatuck police said. "The round missed the victim impacting the ground. There were no reported injuries from this incident. All persons involved in this incident had subsequently left the area prior to the arrival of police." The investigation eventually led to Colson, according to police, and a warrant was obtained for his arrest. Colson was taken into custody at his residence Tuesday morning, and is being held in lieu of bail of $150,000. He is scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Wednesday.
