Canton Middle School Teacher's Twitter Post Prompts Swift Action

CANTON, MA — A social media post from a William Galvin Middle School teacher about a potentially dangerous intersection in front of the school prompted quick action and new signage in Canton on Tuesday. Within hours of the post, the Canton Department of Public Works had the new signage up and running. Matt Masciarelli, a science teacher at the school, posted a message on his Twitter account that students, teachers, and all pedestrians in general, encountered a dangerous crossing situation at the intersection of Kenney and Washington streets near the school. "No crosswalk warning signs or lights when sun sets in late afternoon," he wrote. "Motorists often ignore crossing guard's stop sign as well." The teacher hashtagged #CantonMAPolice on the message and the town quickly moved to correct the potential danger spot. Canton police then publicly thanked Masciarelli for alerting them to the issue.
