OCEAN CITY, NJ — An Ocean City police officer has been charged with stalking after a tracking device found on a vehicle was linked to him, the Cape May County Prosecutor's Office announced. Jacob M. Harris, 32, of Egg Harbor Township, was arrested Jan. 27, Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland and Chief of Detectives Paul Skill said. Harris is on administrative leave pending the outcome of his criminal proceedings, Sutherland said. Lower Township police were called to a home in the town on Jan. 26, to investigate a tracking device, Sutherland said, and the investigation revealed the device was connected to Harris. The incident was investigated by the Cape May County Prosecutor's Office Professional Standards Unit, he said. Harris was arrested Jan. 27 and charged with stalking, a fourth-degree charge, and later released on a summons pending court proceedings, Sutherland said. A conviction on a fourth-degree crime can be sentenced up to 18 months in prison.
