Press release from the New Orleans Fire Department: January 31, 2022 On Monday, January 31, 2022 at 3:37 pm the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) received a call reporting a fire at an apartment complex in the 12000 block of the North I-10 Service Rd. in New Orleans East. The first of what would eventually escalate to twenty-two NOFD units carrying fifty-nine Fire Operations personnel, arrived on the scene at 3:43 pm. Upon arrival to 12345 N. I-10 Service Rd., the Carmel Brook Apartments, firefighters were directed to a first-floor apartment in building 22. This is the unit where the fire is believed to have begun. Simultaneously, fire personnel began setting up fire suppressions operations and conducting a primary search of the twelve unit building to make sure all residents were out.   A second alarm was requested at 3:56 pm, as the fire began to spread through common walls to second and third floor apartments. A third alarm was requested at 4:16 pm as the fire reached the attack and began to burn through the roof. At this point all firefighters were ordered out of the building and an exterior attack was conducted, attacking the fire from above and all sides.   At the time of this press release no injuries had been reported and although the location of origin is known, the cause is still under investigation. This is still a working incident and has not yet been placed under control. All twelve units of this apartment building were occupied.
