Press release from MCHS: Feb. 1, 2022 Morris County Historical Society is pleased to announce the receipt of a grant from the F.M. Kirby Foundation for archaeological investigations of a historic foundation on Acorn Hall's property. Located adjacent to the site's recently restored carriage house, the original use of the building, once located on the foundation, is a long-standing mystery. Proper identification of the building will allow MCHS to more accurately interpret the land-use history of the property, which is a priority. "The F.M. Kirby Foundation has been extremely generous to MCHS over the past few years, becoming instrumental in the successful completion of several of our high profile projects. It is wonderful having their support and encouragement as we continue our efforts to preserve and interpret local history," said MCHS Executive Director Amy Curry. Over the past decade, MCHS finished the complete exterior restoration of Acorn Hall and interior and exterior restoration of the Hall's associated carriage house, soon to be publicly available and interpreted for the first time. MCHS is a member-supported 501 (c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of Morris County history. Located at Acorn Hall since 1971, our ground-breaking exhibitions of collections as well as stewardship and interpretation of original interior furniture, finishes, and fine and decorative arts, making MCHS one of the premier county-level historical societies in New Jersey. MCHS at Acorn Hall is located at 68 Lafayette Ave., Morristown, and is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sundays, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Admission, including exhibits and landscaped grounds, is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors, $3 for students, and is free for children under 12 and MCHS members.
