Press release from City of Fort Worth: February 01, 2022 The City of Fort Worth is currently seeking public feedback on its Open Space Strategy draft report.  Comments can be emailed to [email protected]. The deadline to submit comments is Feb. 13. The report was developed with assistance from the Trust for Public Land, a national nonprofit with nationwide expertise in creating parks and protecting land, both for current populations and generations yet to come. "The conservation of priority natural areas is vital to maintaining a healthy and livable community," said Fort Worth Assistant City Manager Dana Burghdoff of the overarching goal of the Open Space Conservation Program. The report recommendations cover such topics as program management, engagement, funding, acquisition, maintenance and volunteers and provide the city with a menu of strategies it can pursue considering citywide priorities and resources over time. The recommendations were informed by benchmarking eight communities and working with stakeholders to identify recommendations appropriate for Fort Worth. The city is targeting City Council adoption of the Open Space Strategy Report in May. The fourth public meeting about the Open Space Conservation Program will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24. The meeting will discuss the report before it goes to the City Council for adoption March 8 and highlight some of the feedback received during the initial public review period. Meeting organizers will also talk about some of the key recommendations to come out of the report, as well as the final mapping results. Additionally, they will do a live demo of the finalized Open Space Prioritization online mapping tool that will be publicly accessible for anyone to use online. The mission of the city's Open Space Conservation Program is to conserve high-quality natural areas as the city grows to provide environmental benefits and recreational opportunities that support economic development and enhance the livability and desirability of Fort Worth.
