District 308 Goes Remote Wednesday In Anticipation Of Bad Weather

OSWEGO, IL — In anticipation of hazardous weather, Oswego School District 308 is using an emergency day Wednesday "out of concern for the safety of our students and staff." Students at all grade levels will shift to remote learning for the day, district officials announced Tuesday afternoon. "At this time we anticipate having regularly scheduled in person school on Thursday, however we will let you know if that changes," officials said in a message to the community. A winter storm is approaching the Chicago area Tuesday evening, and total snow accumulations between 5 to 11 inches are expected, Patch reported. What school days will look like Wednesday will vary depending on grade level. Early childhood and elementary students should use the Day 1 lesson plan of packets previously sent home from schools. If the packet was misplaced, it can also be found on District 308's website. Elementary teachers will hold office hours and be available by email between 9 a.m. and 9:30 a.m., from 11:30 a.m. to noon, and again from 1:30 pm. to 2 p.m. Junior high students will follow their normal schedule by participating in teacher-led classes via Google Classroom. High schoolers will use the Wednesday Early Release schedule and take classes with teachers using Google Classroom. All elementary and junior high activities are canceled, and a decision regarding high school after-school activities will be made by 10:30 a.m. Wednesday and communicated directly from high school administrators.
