Giant Joliet Snowstorm: Several Schools Announce Closings

JOLIET, IL — With the biggest snowstorm of the year just hours away from starting, several Joliet area schools announced that classes will be canceled for Wednesday. "All Joliet District 86 Schools will be closed tomorrow due to the predicted snow storm," District 86 spokeswoman Sandra Zalewski announced. "Due to the predicted weather forecast, all District 86 Schools will be closed on Wednesday, February 2. No classes or after school activities will be held February 2. The school day will be made up on June 2." Joliet Township High School District 204 announced that students at Joliet Central and Joliet West will not have classes on campus on Wednesday, either. Instead, District 204 students will have an E-learning day, district officials said. And in the Troy Community Consolidated School District 30-C, Superintendent Todd Koehl announced that all classes for Troy students will involve eLearning on Wednesday because of the large snowstorm expected to hit the area. None of the Troy school buildings will be open on Wednesday because of the snowstorm, the superintendent said. He urged parents to be extremely safe if they have to drive anywhere during the snow storm. Channahon School District 17 and Minooka School District 201 won't have regular classes on Wednesday as well. Channahon and Minooka students will have an eLearning day instead. Two Catholic grade schools in Joliet, St. Ray's and St. Jude, also canceled school for Wednesday. Patch will be updating this story as more Joliet area cancellations are announced.
