BURLINGTON, MA — Burlington's 3rd Ave business district could see a "parklet" created using town parking spaces, with the goal of increasing foot traffic and helping the area's businesses through the pandemic. Economic Development Director Melisa Tintocalis brought the plan to the Board of Selectmen's Sept. 14 meeting, after discussions with the Nordblom Company, the developer behind the area. Two to four parking spaces would be used, with rotating events and vendors programmed by Nordblom. The plan, emphasized by several selectmen, is to compliment the existing businesses, not supplant them in any way. Ideas include a truck selling whoopie pies and autumnal fare like apple cider. Selectman Jim Tigges asked that if the plan goes forward, it involve a real barrier against cars, not just a rope. Tintocalis said she would continue discussions with the company before bringing a formal proposal to the Board. The full meeting can be viewed here, courtesy of BCAT.
