Description
PORTLAND, OR — A pedestrian was struck and killed in Portland, a phrase becoming tragically too common this yea. It happened around 8:15 p.m. on Monday night on I-5 just south of the Interstate Bridge.
The person was the sixth pedestrian to be killed in Portland this year. In all, 10 people have died in crashes in the city this year.
The January numbers come on the heels of 2021, which saw the most people killed on Portland streets in at least 30 years. Last year, 63 people died in crashes, 27 of whom were pedestrians.
The number of pedestrians killed last year was the highest since the late 1960s.
If the crashes continue at this pace, both totals would be more than doubled.
As for Monday's crash, police say that the driver stayed on scene. They also ask that if anyone has information about the incident, please contact [email protected], attention Traffic Investigations Unit, and reference case number 22-29269, or call (503)823-2103.
