Press release from the Cass County Government:
02/01/2022 10:30 am
Temperatures will be hovering around zero degrees on Friday night during the "Freezing for Good Reason" event hosted by the FM Legion Riders. Cass County Sheriff Jesse Jahner and Clay County Sheriff Mark Empting will once again brave the cold to raise awareness for Veteran suicide prevention and the homeless population in the community.
Sheriff Jahner and Sheriff Empting, along with several other public figures from the community, will be sleeping outside in a tent on the evening of February 4th at the Moorhead American Legion. Although Sheriff Jahner and Sheriff Empting will be battling the cold weather for one night, the event lasts until Sunday at noon. The 44 hours from Friday afternoon to Sunday signifies the 22 Veterans per day that commit suicide. Sleeping outside represents the numbing truth of homelessness within the Veteran community.
Along with raising awareness, the FM Legion Riders will donate half of the funds raised to the Fargo Memorial Honor Guard to build a much-needed shelter at the North Dakota National Cemetery. The other half of the funds raised will be split between each of the campers' favorite Giving Hearts Day charities.
