BURLINGTON, MA — Burlington was awarded a $3.5 million grant under the state's MassWorks program to fund the town's connection to the Massachusetts Regional Water Authority, town officials said at a recent Board of Selectmen meeting. Speaking to the Board on Nov. 30, Town Administrator Paul Sagarino praised the town's business community for supporting the grant application. The town's $3.5 million grant was the second largest of the recent group of grants. The project is projected to cost $25.7 million. The Burlington Area Chamber of Commerce helped arrange for organizations and businesses including Lahey Hospital and the Nordblom Company to fund a consultant to help with the application, Sagarino said. The town of Bedford also supported the town's application. Burlington recently received a key approval on the way to joining the authority and completed the first phase of the project. The town has been seeking to join for years, due to chronic water shortages. Christopher Huffaker can be reached at 412-265-8353 or [email protected].
