BURLINGTON, MA — Burlington Police Chief Michael Kent announced Thursday that the department arrested a Connecticut man Wednesday in an investigation into a local scam. Burlington police accused Hartford resident Erick Hernandez-Quezada, 23, of scamming a local senior. Hernandez-Quezada was charged with larceny over $250 from a disabled person over 60 and released on personal recognizance. The police accuse the suspect of posing as an attorney and telling a Burlington senior that her son was arrested and she needed to provide $7,500 in bail money. The elderly victim contacted police and said she had fallen victim to the scam. Investigators came to believe Hernandez-Quezada was the scammer and applied for an extraditable warrant. He was arrested in Hartford and transported by Burlington police to Woburn District Court. He was arraigned Wednesday. The next court date is April 17, 2020. "The Burlington Police Department believes Hernandez-Quezada may be involved in other successful or attempted scams in the area and asks anyone who feels that the suspect may have attempted a theft in their community to call their local police department," Kent wrote.
