Burlington Heroes: Help Recognize More People Making A Difference

BURLINGTON, MA — The adage 'not all heroes wear capes' is more apparent now than ever. Countless people are putting themselves in danger by simply showing up to work in essential roles for our communities, risking possible infection from the new coronavirus. Over the course of the outbreak in Massachusetts, 100s of Burlington residents have tested positive for the virus. Doctors, nurses, police and grocery store workers alike are just some of the professions with a high potential for exposure to the virus. Patch wants to recognize as many of these heroes as possible. Burlington residents have made multiple nominations: Burlington Hero Delivers 100s Of Lettuce Plants To Community Burlington High School junior Matt Tengtrakool founded an organization to deliver lettuce plants to local households. 'Puts Her Community Before Herself': Burlington Patch Hero Burlington's Donna O'Brien, a nurse manager at Winchester Hospital, "exemplifies selflessness," her granddaughter said. 'Puts Her Life On The Line': Burlington Hero Nurse Burlington's Dawn Salina provides critical nursing services to coronavirus patients, her neighbor Ann Steeves said. Burlington Patch Heroes: People Helping People Coordinators Jane McIninch and Cheryl Barnes "have done an outstanding job of delivering pantry services during the pandemic," their nominator wrote. 'Smart, Caring, Compassionate And An Excellent Nurse': Local Hero Burlington's Katie Mackey was deployed to a coronavirus ICU, her nominator wrote, and did not hesitate to do her part. Burlington Patch Hero Nurse "Could Have Long Since Retired" Burlington's Lynne Putney is an RN at Boston Children's Hospital and has a passion for caring for young children. Burlington Patch Hero Works Nights At An Assisted Living Facility Tara Murphy, a certified nursing assistant, works nights and then cares for her children by day. We know you've encountered or seen them around town, and we want to help recognize as many of these heroes as possible.
