Description

BROOKLINE, MA — Cyclists in Brookline can now enjoy access to a contraflow bike lane on Green Street. The lane was approved Monday evening by a 4-to-1 vote of the transportation board, according to a press release from Biking Brookline, a community bicycling group dedicating to promoting safe and fun biking in Brookline. The plan was detailed Jan. 2019 in a master plan from the Brookline Bicycle Advisory Committee. According to the master plan, the contraflow lane will extend on Green Street from Dwight Street to Harvard Street and will have sharrow markings "safely out of the door zone in the northbound direction" and will have other enhancements to keep cyclists and pedestrians safe. The bike land was turned down in 2012 when it was last proposed. In a release, Biking Brookline thanked everyone who submitted written comments in support of the lane, the transportation board and the Brookline Bicycle Advisory Committee.
