Davis Path Footbridge Demolition To Happen During MBTA Shutdown

BROOKLINE, MA — The Davis Path Footbridge demolition will be finished by the end of this month as planned, according to Town officials. Brookline is set to complete the demolition during the second of two nine-day shutdowns of the MBTA green line's D branch. Town officials said they expect to lock in a contractor to do the work this week. The demolition is set to happen between June 20-28. The footbridge, which first opened in 1911, was closed on April 11 after the town's structural engineering consultant, LiRo Group, concluded that the bridge posed a potential hazard to the MBTA tracks below and pedestrians. In May, Town officials announced the Davis Path Pedestrian Footbridge, which has carried pedestrians over the D line in Brookline Village for more than 100 years, was coming down. Davis Path begins on White Place and ends at Boylston Street across from Lincoln School where Walnut Path picks up and links the neighborhood west of Brookline Village with Boylston Street and Boylston Street Playground at Route 9. After the bridge comes down, contractors will design and build a temporary bridge for pedestrian access, though it's not clear when that will start or how long it will take.
