BROCKTON, MA—The Brockton Board of Health reported 51 new COVID-19 cases and one death over the weekend, bringing the total number of active cases in the city to 349. The weekend uptick in cases brings Brockton's total number of COVID-19 cases since the beginning of the pandemic to 5,376 and total number of virus-related deaths to 304. Brockton remains one of the state's red zones, meaning the city has experienced eight or more cases every day per 100,o00 residents over a two-week period. There is currently an average of 20.9 daily cases in Brockton and a positive test rate of 8.8 percent. Brockton's two in-city hospitals, Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital and Good Samaritan Medical Center, reported 16 hospitalized patients being treated for COVID-19 on Sunday. Six people remain in the intensive care unit according to the latest statistics. The increase of coronavirus cases in Brockton comes during a statewide increase in cases over the last few weeks. The Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported 1,139 new cases and 22 deaths in its daily update on Sunday, bringing the total number of cases in Massachusetts to 155,660 and the total number of deaths among confirmed cases to 9,788.
