Brockton Reports 19 New Coronavirus Cases

BROCKTON—The Brockton Board of Health reported 19 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, bringing the town's total number of confirmed cases since the beginning of the pandemic to 5,553. Based on the most recent statistics on the town's website, Brockton has 24.7 average daily cases and a positive test rate of 4.81%. This means the town remains a high-risk red zone, or a community with eight or more cases per day per 100,000 residents over a two-week period. Brockton is one of 16 Massachusetts towns that are currently considered red zones. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 305 city residents have died from the disease, with no additional deaths reported over the weekend, and there are currently 440 active cases, or people who are still recovering from the virus. On Sunday, Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital and Good Samaritan Medical Center, the city's two hospitals, reported 17 hospitalized patients being treated for COVID-19, with five of those patients being treated in the intensive care unit. Coronavirus cases statewide are continuing to increase. The Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported 1,809 new confirmed cases and 20 deaths on Sunday, which brings the total number of cases to 166,745 and the total number of deaths to 9,923.
