BRAINTREE, MA — Some have never played hockey before, while others in the Braintree police and fire departments grew up on the sport. But that's not stopping anyone from lacing up the skates for a good cause.
The town's two public safety departments will hit the ice at the Thayer Academy Sports Complex from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday for their first annual charity hockey game. Officer Ryan McHugh, who helped organize, said the proceeds will go to a local charity, but the police and fire departments are still deciding on a charity to donate to.
McHugh said the departments have been hard at work practicing at the Thayer rink and at Shea Memorial Rink in Quincy to make sure the game is competitive and fun for the entire family to watch.
Tickets are available at the door the day of the event and cost $10 per person or $25 per family.
