Description
Union Hall is teaming up with Flex Infinity for an evening of art & wine. Show some love to the emerging artists featured in Union Hall’s current exhibition, Perception Shift, while enjoying a variety of wines from the McBride Sisters Winery. Curated by Amy Hoagland, Perception Shift investigates how different materials — projected light, shadow, ceramic, graphite, glass, and metal — can work alongside each other to shift the viewer’s way of seeing. Guests will also be introduced to a new digital wine tasting experience provided by Somm Says, which will shift your way of thinking about wine tasting! Your sommelier, Susan Fredson-Cole from Admire & Vine, has loaded their tasting notes into Somm Says and guests can compare experiences in a wine tasting game that connects wine lovers, wine professionals, and local wine businesses. About the artThe work in Perception Shift is connected through its exploration of reality and ability to alter the gaze of the viewer, to challenge us to perceive differently, and to free ourselves from expectations. Perception is activated in distinct ways throughout the show: Thedford’s ceramic sculptures confuse the eyes and provoke the sense of touch, Bianca’s projections allow one to visualize space in a new way, Abubaker plays with our sense of sight as we try to decipher the phenomena in her projections and sculptures, Lemon and de Leon’s works point to the metaphysical; investigating ourselves beyond our earth existence. Perception Shift seeks to guide viewers through an exploration of their own realities — to provoke a deeper understanding of ourselves and our place within this world. — Amy Hoagland, curator About the venueFounded in 2019, Union Hall is a 501(c)(3) non-profit arts exhibition space, with the mission of advancing opportunities for diverse, emerging artists and showcasing exhibitions while providing the community with accessible creative experiences.
