BRAINTREE, MA — Braintree businesses were among the biggest recipients of federal Paycheck Protection Program loans in Massachusetts, with the town receiving the 6th-most funding, according to new data reported by the Boston Business Journal.. Businesses in Braintree received over 900 loans worth over $164 million. Downtown Boston led the state with $296.5 million in PPP loans. Combined, Boston businesses received over $1 billion in PPP loans. The Paycheck Protection Program, part of the CARES Act passed in response to the coronavirus pandemic in March, offered forgivable loans for payroll and other expenses.
