BRAINTREE, MA — Braintree will start the school year with a choice between remote and hybrid learning at all grade levels except for the high school. Here are five things to keep in mind as students begin classes this week: 1. When is the first day of school? School will start Wednesday, Sept. 16. Most students will be scheduled for two consecutive half-days of instruction at school and three days of remote learning. 2. What is going on with Braintree High School? Students at the high school level do not have a choice between learning plans. High school students will learn remotely through at least Oct. 9. The delay is so school officials can explore improving ventilation in the 48-year-old school building. 3. What will be expected of students during remote learning? Students are expected to treat online classes as if they are in a classroom. They will complete the assigned course work, and parents can check their child's progress and stay up to date on announcements via ParentSquare. 4. What are some health and safety guidelines for in-school learning? Masks/face coverings required for all staff and students at all times. Students must also be at least 6 feet apart. Extensive cleaning protocols were also put in place at all school buildings. Since the in-person days are half-days, students will be served "grab and go" lunches as they leave school. And with social distancing, bus capacities will be limited to just elementary school students that live more than 2 miles from their school. Superintendent Frank Hackett said buses normally have a 77-person capacity, but school officials have dropped that to 25. What does my child need to start the year?
