BRAINTREE, MA — A Braintree woman competing in a national baking competition has advanced to the next round and is a step closer to turning her hobby into a career.
Melanie Anderson has baked as a hobby for the last 20 years, perfecting her cupcake and custom cake recipes.
She entered the "Greatest Baker" competition and finished first place in her group after voting in the second round concluded Thursday. Anderson runs a small business, Boss10 Cupcakes, from home, and if she wins the competition, wants to use the $10,000 prize money to continue making her dream a reality.
"I have been a resident of Braintree and have baked for many in our community," Anderson said. "I would love to be able to open up my own bakery right here in Braintree and winning this competition would be a huge help in getting me to that goal."
The competition lasts throughout November, and she's relying on the community to vote, so she can continue to move on and eventually win the contest in early December.
People can vote every 24 hours on the competition's website. The next round ends at 11 p.m., this Thursday, so if you're a fan of Anderson's baked goods, give her a vote today.
