Mountain biking is such a fantastic sport — and the better you get, the better it gets. Join us for a life-changing day of learning and fun. Join world class MTB skills coach Andy Somerville for a full day of learning, riding and joy. You can expect to learn the essentials of: Bike choice and setupRiding positionseffective brakingFun, safe corneringRiding up things efficientlyRiding down things safelyPumping terrainReading trails and creating Flow (with a capital F)Here's the basic schedule for the day: Morning: Meet at the Tonaquint Intermediate School parking lot for bike setup and core skills work. Lunch: We'll eat together at the school. Bring your own lunch. Feel free to ask Andy whatever you like. Afternoon: Head to Bearclaw Poppy to plug your new skills into the beautiful trails. Who is this class for?If you're new to mountain biking, this class will help you skip the years — more like decades — of sucking at mountain biking and likely getting injured while learning. If you're more experienced, Andy will show you a simple, infinitely scalable way to make your riding even safer, faster and more fun. Ride every kind of terrain you want! The super-duper stuff you see the pros do ... they are using these same fundamentals, just at t higher level. About AndyAndy Somerville is a seasoned bike coach who helps riders of all ages improve their efficiency and performance. As a founding coach and a director for the SoCal High School Cycling League, Andy has helped scores of teens (yikes!) win races and simply finish races in one piece. Andy is a licensed MTB 101 Instructor for the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (which uses the Lee Likes Bikes Training Method), teaching coaches to teach the good stuff to the next generation of high school cyclists. Also, Andy is one of the few elite Lee Likes Bikes skills instructors. When you work with Andy, you are getting a whole lot of experience plus excellent kung fu. As an experienced racer in XC, Super D, and Enduro, Andy understands the rider’s viewpoint and real-world challenges on course and trail. Andy has keen observation skills, clear communication skills, empathy and a healthy sense of humor. His teaching style is down to earth and easy to understand. Andy is ultra-passionate about cycling, health, trail advocacy and promoting access to our beloved sport. His mission is to help riders improve their skills and confidence so they can explore new trails and have great adventures.
