The Nassau County 4-H Young Riders Club is hosting an exclusive introduction to horses day-camp experience! Limited to 16 youth ages 8-13.
Is your child interested in horses but you're not sure where to start in getting them involved? This event is a wonderful starting point for all young horsemen and women! Our knowledgeable 4-H'ers are eager to teach your child some fundamentals about horses and have a ton of fun too.
Check in starts at 9:30 am and will conclude at noon. All parents must in-person check in youth.
We will start with a brief equine safety talk then lead small groups through 4 rotations led by 4-H members and screened adults. The four sessions will include: how to groom a horse and put on their tack/equipment, a few crafts to bring home (for both boys and girls!), learning to read and ride patterns, and a 20 minute introductory riding lesson from an experienced 4-H rider! If time allows we have bonus activities.
Participants must wear closed-toe shoes and a helmet while working with horses. Boots are suggested and helmets will be provided. Please wear jeans and t-shirt (absolutely no spaghetti straps, tank tops, sandals, or shorts). This event is outside so please dress weather appropriate.
Lunch and a water bottle must be brought for each attendee. We will have extra water available. Parents are welcome to stay or drop off.
