PEMBROKE, MA — A 27-year-old bobsledder from Pembroke will be among the nine athletes competing in the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. The opening ceremony will be held Friday, although competitions will begin as soon as Wednesday. Pembroke native Kris Horn, 27, will be part of the USA Men's Bobsledding Team. Horn is a Umass graduate who majored in mechanical engineering and started his first year bobsledding in 2017. Within a few months, Horn was competing on the world cup tour and earned a bronze medal at the 2019 world championships in the team event. Horn also has won two world cup bronze medals as a push athlete for Hunter Church. The USA Men's Bobsled Team started a GoFundMe fundraiser to help them compete for the gold, and over $96,000 has been contributed to support the team along their journey. While the U.S. men bobsledding team is not considered to be medal favorites at the 2022 games, U.S. women have won medals at every Olympic Winter Games since the 2002 Salt Lake City Games. Along with Horn, here are the other Massachusetts athletes competing in the 2022 winter games: Sean Farrell, Men's Ice Hockey, HopkintonJulia Kern, Cross-Country Skiing, WalthamMatty Beniers, Men's Ice Hockey, HinghamDrew Commesso, Men's Ice Hockey, NorwellMarc McLaughlin, Men's Ice Hockey, BillericaDavid Warsofsky, Men's Ice Hockey, MarshfieldZachary DiGregoria, Luge, Medway See the full schedule for the 2022 Winter Olympics here.
