Mike Moore Announces Retirement From Pasco County Commission

PASCO COUNTY, FL — In an unexpected announcement Monday, County Commissioner Mike Moore announced that he will retire from the commission at the end of his term. Moore was elected to the commission in 2014 and served as chairman of the commission in 2017 and vice chairman in 2016 and 2019. He represents District 2, which includes the Wesley Chapel and Wiregrass Ranch areas. "Today, after much deliberation and discussions with my family, I have decided that I will be retiring from the Pasco County Board of County Commissioners at the end of my term and will return to the private sector full time," said Moore in a statement. "It has been an honor and a pleasure to serve the citizens of Pasco County over the past seven years, and I am pleased to have led a number of transformative changes to better the quality of life for the citizens of Pasco County." While he will no longer represent the county as a commissioner, Moore said he will continue to be involved in issues of concern to the county. "Even though I am retiring from the commission, I will always be your champion and will continue to be by your side fighting for what is best for our county's future," he said. "I am extremely grateful for the citizens of Pasco County who placed their trust and vote in me." Moore lives in the Seven Oaks subdivision in Wesley Chapel with his wife, Lauren, and three children. Before selling the company in 2015, Moore owned a business brokerage mergers and acquisition firm. A staunch Republican, Moore currently serves as the host of "Reel Politics" on AM Radio 860. An admitted sports fanatic, Moore played a major role in transforming Pasco County's tourism bureau into the Experience Florida's Sports Coast, emphasizing the many outdoor activities and team sports offered in the county. In 2021, visitor spending in Pasco County generated a record $721.7 million in economic impact to the county, an increase of 30.7 percent above 2020. During his tenure, Moore helped oversee the completion and opening of the 98,000-square-foot Wiregrass Ranch Sports Campus, which hosted major regional volleyball, basketball and cheerleading tournaments; AdventHealth Center Ice, the largest ice sports facility in the Southeast; and 17,800-square-foot recreation center at Wesley Chapel District Park, which includes a 7,000-square-foot playground adapted for children with disabilities. In addition to serving on the Tourist Development Council, Moore services on the Pasco Economic Development Council, Dependency Drug Treatment Court Planning Steering Committee, Government Operations Committee, Insurance Selection Committee; Public Safety Coordinating Council and the Homeless Advisory Board (Chair). Moore's term of office will end this November. To date, no one has filed to fill the seat.
