Marlborough Will Host 4 Coronavirus Booster Clinics In February

MARLBOROUGH, MA — The Marlborough Board of Health will hold four COVID-19 booster shot clinics in February as cases of the virus continue to be at elevated levels due to the omicron variant. The clinics will take place every Wednesday starting Feb. 2 at City Hall at 12:30 p.m. The clinics are appointment-only, and will provide the Moderna version of the booster. To be eligible for a booster, you must have received two shots of either the Moderna or Pfizer version more than five months ago, or the single-shot Johnson & Johnson version more than two months ago. The vaccine is the best way to guard against severe disease and death due to COVID-19, according to health experts. Cases in Marlborough broke pandemic records in recent weeks, but are declining. On Jan. 21, Marlborough was adding 1350.1 new cases per day per 100,000 residents over a one-week period. The number of active cases was at 319 citywide. But by Jan. 28, the rate per 100,000 residents had dropped to 772.8 with 200 active cases. Marlborough added about 4,800 new cases in just December and January — almost as much as in the nearly two years since the pandemic began. Marlborough hit 10,639 cases since March 2020 as of Friday, plus 140 deaths. On Dec. 3, the city had only reached 5,848 cases and 127 deaths.
