Description
BEVERLY, MA — Beverly police said they have received numerous complaints from residents about a recent scam where those claiming to be police officers call and request gift cards to resolve a failure to respond to a subpoena.
The calls appear to be coming from the main business number of the Beverly Police Department, but are not.
"These calls are false," Beverly police warned. "These calls are a scam. We do not serve subpoenas via telephone. We certainly would not ask anyone to get 'gift cards' to settle any manner."
Residents are advised never to purchase gift cards and send them to anyone requesting them in an unsolicited phone call.
"Again, this is a scam!" police said.
