The Potomac River Jazz Club is pleased to announce that our annual Mardi Gras celebration will include a very special guest, coming from the Preservation Jazz Hall in New Orleans, Mr. Ronell (Roo) Johnson making a special appearance. Ronell will be joining the Orleans Express Jazz Band for an exciting afternnon at Rosensteel Hall. Ronell is a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist specializing in Traditional New Orleans jazz. While he is best known for his trombone playing, he is also proficient on tuba, piano, organ, plus vocals. Born and raised in New Orleans, Ronel was greatly influenced by legendary jazz trombonist James "Trummy" Young of the Louis Armstrong Jazz Band and incorporates a tailgate technique developed by Kid Ory. In 2003, Ronell began performing at Preservation Hall and later became a member of its principal touring band. Ronell will be joined by Orleans Express musicians Lew Elkins on cornet, Halley Schoenberg on reed, Greg Williams on drums, John O'Brian on banjo, John Stewart also on trombone, and Willie Clark on tuba. Dont be surprised if Ronell joins Willie for a tuba-sousaphone bass duet! Get ready for a true New Orleans Mardi Gras event with a whole lot of good ol' New Orleans music, marching, and merry making!
