8 Newark Nonprofits Will Get State Funds To Reduce Gun Violence

NEWARK, NJ — Eight nonprofits in Newark will be among more than two dozen statewide that split $8.2 million in funding aimed at reducing gun violence by empowering community activists. Last week, Gov. Phil Murphy and Acting Attorney General Andrew Bruck announced that 25 nonprofit organizations will receive $8.2 million in grant funding for community-based violence intervention programming. The historic investment will support programs that provide "alternatives to violence" and promote "community-based public safety models," according to a news release from the governor's office. Groups in Newark that will get funding include: Newark Community Street Team, Inc.
