OSWEGO, IL — An Oswego District 308 alum has been hired as Southbury Elementary School's new assistant principal, bringing his career full circle, officials announced Monday.
The Oswego Community Unit School District 308 Board of Education approved Jon Szychlinski II for the role at its Jan. 24 meeting.
"I am very excited to be coming home to District 308 where I had an amazing learning journey filled with so many splendid memories," Szychlinski said in a statement. "I'm humbled to be joining the Southbury family and serving in the role of assistant principal. I can't wait to meet all the students, staff and families!"
The administrator, who graduated from Oswego High School in 1997, began his educational career in 2007 by working as a physical education and health teacher at Berwyn North School District 98. In 2020, he switched school districts to work as a dean and activities coordinator at Richland Junior High School in Crest Hill. It was at Crest Hill district that Szychlinski became involved with several building-level committees and teams, including junior high/elementary lunch staff coordinator, district handbook committee chairperson, and school climate and culture chairperson, District 308 officials said in a news release.
Szychlinski has a bachelor's degree in physical and health education from Western University in Macomb, Illinois, and a master's degree in educational leadership from Governors State University.
"His work with and dedication to diverse populations will be an asset to the Southbury community," Lindsay Allen, director of elementary education, said in a statement.
