JOLIET, IL — Joliet police used a Taser to take down a 28-year-old man running away from officers following a Sunday afternoon traffic stop on the city's east side. Officers say Kenneth Housley tossed his stolen gun, which was loaded, into the snow as he tried to avoid being captured. Housley was booked into the Will County Jail around 9 p.m. on charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possessing a stolen gun, having no Firearm Owner's Identification card, unlawful possession of ammunition and resisting arrest. Joliet police tried to stop Housley's vehicle around 3:55 p.m. near Jackson and Chicago Streets after he made an improper turn, police reports show. Police said they smelled marijuana inside the car, and Housley stepped outside the car with a satchel bag across his shoulder. When the patrol officers told Housley to remove the satchel from his body, he took off running, police said. Eventually, officers located Housley in the 300 block of North Ottawa Street and officers used a Taser to take him into custody, police announced. Police said they recovered a loaded .45-caliber handgun in the snow and additional .45-caliber ammunition from the bag Housley was carrying. Officers say the gun was stolen. Although police identified Housley as being a Joliet resident, Will County Jail logs listed him as living in the 200 block of Lockport's Englewood Avenue.
