JOLIET, IL — The 23-year-old Joliet man arrested over the weekend on South Weber Road in connection with a parking lot armed robbery at Sidelines Sports Bar on West Jefferson Street already had a felony warrant for his arrest. Around 2:40 a.m. Saturday, Chavez and Justin Cox, 29, of Joliet, approached three men in the Sidelines parking lot and announced a robbery, according to police. A gun was displayed, and the victims gave up their cash and cell phones, police said. Cox was captured shortly after the armed robbery while police arrested Chavez in Romeoville on Saturday night. In addition to the armed robbery charges from Sidelines, Chavez faces three counts of aggravated battery in connection with an incident inside the Louis Joliet Mall on Nov. 18. That evening, Joliet police went to the Louis Joliet mall for a call involving a fight. Joliet police say Chavez attacked a woman and a mall security guard. "Chavez approached a mall kiosk and struck an adult female in the face with a closed fist, without provocation," Joliet police announced. "A male security guard intervened and directed Chavez to leave the property, at which time Chavez struck the security guard in the head with a closed fist." Two months later, on Jan. 18, Joliet police detectives got a warrant to arrest Chavez on the three counts of aggravated battery, police reports indicate. Then, on Saturday night, detectives spotted Chavez in a vehicle on South Weber Road in Romeoville. As detectives tried to take Chavez into custody, he put up a struggle, refusing to submit to arrest, police said. "Detectives deployed a taser and Chavez was placed into custody without further incident," Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English announced. Now, Chavez's total bail is at $825,000, jail logs show.
