Description

Press release from the Washington County Government: January 28, 2022 The County Elections Official has verified that petitioners have surpassed the required number of signatures to refer Ordinance 878 to the voters at the May 2022 election. This means that Ordinance 878, which prohibits the sale of flavored tobacco products and flavored synthetic nicotine as well as price promotions, coupons and discounts, is now "on hold." Under the County's charter, the ordinance is inoperative, and the effective date is suspended. Retailers in Washington County are allowed to sell flavored tobacco and there will be no enforcement. The ordinance will become effective only if it is approved by a majority of the voters in May. This press release was produced by the Washington County Government.
