Belmont Police Chief Richard McLaughlin Honored Before Retiring

BELMONT, MA — Belmont Chief of Police Richard McLaughlin is retiring at the end of this month after leading the department for 12 years. Officers in the department as well as local officials and residents came together on Tuesday to honor him during his retirement reception. Honoring McLaughlin were past and present Select Board members, police chiefs from other town, local legislators and District Attorney Marian Ryan. McLaughlin was appointed police chief in 2007 by then Select Board chair William Brownsberger. Brownsberger now serves as a state senator and spoke at McLaughlin's reception. The current Select Board offered McLaughlin a citation to recognize his years of service to the community. McLaughlin's last day on the job is Dec. 31. Before leading the Belmont Police Department, he worked in the Arlington Police Department for 27 years. Before that, McLaughlin served five years in the U.S. Navy. In total, McLaughlin has spent over 39 years as a public servant.
