COBB COUNTY, GA — A Cobb County Sheriff's Office deputy was arrested Monday and charged with four felonies after deputies "discovered contraband" in the Cobb jail last week, according to a statement from the sheriff's office. Dyimond Johnson, 30, of Sandy Springs, faces four felony charges: crossing guard lines with a controlled substance, conspiracy to commit a felony, violation of oath of office and giving false statements/concealing facts or fraudulent documents. Johnson was hired as a Cobb sheriff's deputy four months ago "after undergoing a rigorous background check," the sheriff's office said. He was fired Monday after his arrest. No further details could be provided, citing ongoing investigations, according to a spokesperson for the sheriff's office. The CCSO's full statement is below: "Last Monday, the Cobb County Sheriff's Office discovered contraband in the Adult Detention Center and, at the request of Sheriff [Craig] Owens, immediately opened internal and criminal investigations, which are ongoing. "Now former Deputy Dyimond Johnson was arrested today on four felony charges, including crossing guard lines with a controlled substance and violating his oath of office. The Sheriff's Office terminated his employment, effective immediately. "Sheriff Owens remains committed to transparency at every level and will swiftly hold to account any employee who violates their oath of office and the public's trust." He was booked into the Cobb jail Monday, where he will remain without bond.
