ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY — Thomas McCarthy is a standout diver at South Side High School. The junior became a state qualifier in the 1-meter men's diving competition recently. He has been part of the high school's swim/dive Southbrook team (combined with Lynbrook High School student/athletes) since the seventh grade. Along the way, McCarthy earned several accolades, including being named All-Conference, All-County and All-State. McCarthy also broke numerous school diving records and is the team MVP. McCarthy, though, is a versatile athlete, as a right-handed pitcher, the sophomore last year helped the varsity baseball team win the county championship. He also performs well in the classroom, part of the International Baccalaureate National Honor Society, the Science Honor Society and the Math Honor Society.
