Press release from the Town of Bedford:
December 2, 2020
Residents disposing of some bulk items and appliances will be required to pay a fee to cover the costs of disposal starting with the January 4, 2021 collection.
The Bedford Select Board approved the fees last March but delayed implementation due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The fees will apply to appliances with Freon like refrigerators and air conditioners; other appliances like stoves, dryers, and microwaves; small appliances such as microwaves, printers, vacuums, and other electronic waste. Also, large metal items like bicycles, lawn mowers, snow blowers, grills and exercise equipment will require a fee. The fees for televisions and monitors will be based on the size of the screen.
Residents must call Republic Services Customer Service (800-442-9006) by 5:00 p.m. on Friday to schedule a pick-up the following week. Bulk Waste is collected on Mondays. Appliances, televisions/monitors, and electronics are collected on Wednesdays. Residents will have to provide a credit card number when scheduling a pick-up. This process takes affect for pick-ups on January 4 and thereafter.
There are no fees for other bulk items such as household furniture (home, office and patio furniture), carpets and rugs (rolled in 4-foot lengths, tied/taped securely), lamps, car seats, suitcases, rigid plastic items, toys, etc.
For any questions, please contact the Department of Public Works at 781-275-7605.
