Description
Looking to start a new jazz / funk / groove trio/quartet with confident improvising musicians who are able to do charts from The Real Book and take any gig without rehearsal.
A pianist like Robert Glasper, bassist(s) like Thundercat or Mononeon, keyboardists like Cory Henry and any other players that loosely aspire to that aesthetic is the direction.
Here is my blah blah blah.....
I am a really good pocket drummer. Chris Dave is the player I listen to the most right now. Tony Williams always. I'm good, those guys are one of a kind great musicians. I did go to Berklee in Boston on a Buddy Rich scholarship for what that's worth. I came to Austin from LA. I've written music for Apple, Disney NBC etc. and spend my days doing production. I've produced and recorded 820 tutorials on Ableton Live, Pro Tools and Logic.
The last 10 years all of my drum set gigs have also found me playing Ableton, electronics and loops at the same time. It's not ideal. I'd rather just play. I record as an electronic solo artist and play in a LA based jazz improvising collective. All that stuff is on Spotify of course and I'm happy to forward links to you but THAT'S NOT WHAT I WANT TO DO NOW.
What I want is to do is play JUST DRUMS in a jazz/funk/new music improv type of setting. I have zero to prove in the music business. The world became a better place when I stopped trying to be an "impressive" drummer. What I care about is the music. I like holding down the fort so that everything else can blossom. Basically I need to make music fun again if that makes any sense at all. I would love to meet up and share notes and perhaps even play if you find yourself in the same place.
Cheers...
