Description
The Woman's Club of Evanston (WCE) has an opening for a custodian to work as part of a team to clean and maintain the clubhouse, to handle maintenance and custodial issues during events, and to assist with set up and break down of events. This is part time, hourly position, with hours dependent on scheduled events. We anticipate about 20 hours/week, possibly more in high season and less in the off-season. As an independent contractor, this position does not include benefits. The position reports to the WCE Venue Manager. In addition, the position may take direction from an Event Assistant during an event. Areas of Responsibility • Clean and maintain the clubhouse as directed, both for ongoing Clubhouse operations and before, during and after events. • Assist with day-to-day systems operations and maintenance such as heating, cooling, plumbing, electrical and industrial kitchen equipment as well as light landscaping (watering, raking, shoveling, etc.) • Move tables & chairs, arrange furniture and move any items related to the event. Set up & break down as needed. • Troubleshoot and resolve issues (such as a clogged toilet or a spill) as they arise before, during and after an event. • Assist with audio-visual equipment set up such as screens, projectors, microphones, and podiums. • Work as part of a team with WCE staff, caterers, and vendors to ensure a successful event for the client and guests. • Be a key-holder, responsible for opening and securely locking up the building. • Other duties as assigned. Required Competencies • Professional demeanor and a positive attitude. • Comfortable working respectfully as part of a team with Venue Manager, other staff, clients and vendors. • Experience with cleaning products and equipment. • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. • Demonstrated strong customer service skills. Requirements of Job • Weekend and late night hours are mandatory. Weekday hours are also required. • Some shifts may start in the early morning and finish midday. Other shifts may start midday and end after the end of an event (as late as 1:30am). The person in the position must be able to keep a flexible schedule. The exact hours will be scheduled by the Venue Manager based on scheduling and staffing needs. • Ability to move around large multi-level clubhouse, lifting tables and chairs, and moving heavy items delivered by vendors for events. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. • Provide members, guests and vendors with a positive impression of The Woman’s Club of Evanston by cleaning and maintaining the facility and assisting where appropriate. This position is expected to work cohesively with all employees, members and vendors of The Woman’s Club of Evanston in order to maintain a superior level of service. • Adherence to the organization's safety policies to create a safe work environment for everyone. • Strong work ethic with a track record of reliability and punctuality. Ideal Experience • Previous custodial or janitorial experience. • Experience with not-for-profit organizations and knowledge of the local Evanston community are a plus.
