Seeking Mother/Daughter Pairs for UC Berkeley Undergraduate Research

Description

Hello, My name is Samantha, and I am a graduating senior at UC Berkeley that is conducting undergraduate research for my honors research through the Department of Sociology. I am reaching out with hopes of finding mothers with adolescent daughters (loosely, ages 8-15, but not a hard rule) to interview for my Honors Thesis. I am exploring "guilty pleasures" as a gendered phenomenon, using mothers and their daughters to compare experiences of guilty pleasures at different ages (for example, when I think of my and my mom's guilty pleasures, mine are "trashy" reality tv shows, and my mom considers hers to be drinking wine with her friends). I would love to interview you and your daughter separately sometime before April. Each interview shouldn't take more than an hour. I am also interested and open to interviewing you with a group of your female friends. Being a young woman myself, I am sensitive to these sorts of conversations and understand the vulnerability involved, and want to emphasize that these conversations are supposed to be light hearted and fun. I would be happy to hop on a call with you and your daughter to talk more about my project and answer any questions. I am under the guidance of a UCB graduate student and Professor who both have several years of experience, I have been working with children for 8+ years, and I have CITI certification for Ethical Human Research. It is of the utmost importance to me that both you and your daughter feel comfortable and fully informed. My ultimate goal is to empower women to understand where the "guilty" part of our lighthearted pleasures come from, so we may move towards enjoying what we love without shame. This is the most important project I will complete before graduating, and any volunteers will be so deeply appreciated. My email is . I live in Berkeley but I am able to travel elsewhere in the Bay. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions you may have! Please feel free to forward this message to any friends or family that you think may be interested too. Thank you so much, and I look forward to hearing from you!
