Questions about moving to Florida

Greetings to everyone reading this post! This more of a question and seeking to get some information about a matter. I am a current IL. resident and I'm looking to move out of state. My lease is up in late May. I also am a current housing voucher recipient. I'd like to transfer my voucher to a housing authority that has a family self sufficiency program. So, instead of having a voucher, I can use that to eventually to help buy a home. I'm interested in porting in to Clearwater, FL. Housing Authority. If possible could anyone give some insight or information about location or surrounding areas by any chance? Location, is the area high with crime, good schools, any public transportation, etc.? I also had thought about taking a quick trip there in the near future before moving out of my apartment. So, I might be looking for a sponsor or someone to connect with when I arrive to that area...
