You said the music scene is on life support, maybe you’re just looking in the wrong places? Over in Hilo, Amigo’s Cantina is consistently pumping out live hip hop, reggae and god knows what else several nights a week - including a weekly rap battle. Maybe this weekend you missed the spectacle at Willie’s Hot Chicken Friday night. A huge crowd showed up to see a local punk band, dancing like crazy. Look for the videos on Tik Tok or wherever. And last night at Laverne’s more original rock music from The 1201 had the crowd jumping too. An older crowd than Willies but still enthusiastic. Yes it’s mostly classic rock cover bands playing the bars every week but there’s great original music here too if you look for it. Help build up the scene instead of just criticizing it.
