Among his better known innovative concepts are: “shock and awe; “A Brains Based Approach to Strategic Thinking”; and “Massive Attacks of Disruption. ”A former naval person and Swift Boat skipper in Vietnam who carried out over 150 combat missions, and later, commanded a destroyer in the Persian Gulf, he has advised heads of government and industry. He has also chaired several companies. This is his tenth and most important book, which lays out the issues and makes major recommendations to repair a broken government, infrastructure, and in many ways a flawed national security policy and organization. Originally constructed in 1796, the City Tavern functioned as both an inn and a major hub of civic life in the area during the early Federal period. George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and other Founding Fathers frequented the Tavern during this time. The City Tavern Preservation Foundation is an independent 501(c)(3) organization with the mission of preserving one of the oldest Federal period buildings and the sole remaining founding-era tavern in Washington, D.C. and conducts tours of the building and offers educational and civic programming to the public.
