As a professional photographer, she has been empowering men & women through photo sessions for 9 years. Her trademark slogan You make my shutter go CLICK! is meant to convey a saucy, confident message that everyone she photographs is truly amazing. As a result many of her customers transform from camera shy to empowered kings & queens. Brown has partnered with the non-profit TALLOM Foundation Inc & facilitated self-esteem workshops as part of their summer Becoming the Best Me program. Additionally, for Youth Empowerment Show as well as for her own brand Babs Photography LLC, she has interviewed artists, authors, designers, stylists & makeup artists with the goal of inspiring & encouraging listeners to pursue their goals, rise to higher levels & love themselves. Brown also coaches new entrepreneurs, sharing her business knowledge in order to help them avoid many of the time & financial errors she made when beginning her business. Where did The Big Black Book NYC come from? Brown founded the The Big Black Book NYC under the umbrella of her business, Babs Photography LLC. In July 2016, she became very upset by what felt like an escalation of murders, mostly of black men, but also of women by the police. Protesting has its place & clearly has changed the course of history. But as an artist/photographer she wanted to create something visually powerful. Something that would strengthen communities, dispel stereotypes, show power in numbers & change the way People of Color are portrayed in the media. She had the desire to build something at a foundational level. Also, she believes entrepreneurs & small business owners are part of the solution to the complex problems our communities are experiencing currently. Currently, the directory is on Instagram @thebigblackbooknyc and the directory's official website is www.thebigblackbooknyc.com The launch event was held August 12, 2017 & their 4th event was held on August 14, 2021. During the small business directory building events, small business owners (both for profit & nonprofit) are photographed & complete business bios. Through joining forces by way of The Big Black Book NYC, we are presenting ourselves as a strong, interconnected community of entrepreneurs!
