ATTLEBORO, MA — There are hopes for fireworks to fill the skies of Attleboro at some point in 2020.
City officials just don't want them out there this week.
Attleboro Mayor Paul Heroux said in a social media post on July 4: "If all goes well with the pandemic, we will have an official city-sponsored firework celebration on Labor Day weekend."
But Heroux asked residents to refrain from private fireworks use — which is illegal in MA — because they are dangerous, can scare pets and can trigger post-traumatic stress disorder reactions.
As of Friday, there were 666 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the city with no coronvirus-related deaths. The case total was up three from the previous day.
