Every Sunday Since 1997*, Slam Poetry Night has gone down at the Mercury Cafe! Join us for The Jam Before The Slam, The Open Mic and the mother fuckin' Poetry Slam! Everyone is welcome to come through and participate! More info below... vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv 6:00 PM (MPT**) - The Jam B4 The Slam Art Compost & The Word Mechanics lead an open jam with improvised music and spoken word. Audience members are invited to join the jam on numbers throughout the night and perform with the accompaniment of the band. 7:30 PM (MPT**) - Sign Ups At the end of the Jam, sign up sheets for both the Open Mic and Poetry Slam will be released. Slots are limited, and the lists often fills up fast, so don't snooze! 8:00 PM (MPT**) - Poetry Slam (RESPONSE!) Poets compete for $50 and the fame/glory of a Sunday night. Who wins? That's up to the unswayable judges, who are randomly selected/pier-pressured from the audience. Had a bad day? Have a bad life? Snoozed on the sign up sheet? This is your chance to take it all out on a vulnerable, hungry poet! Or to be one! AFTER THE SLAM PM (MPT**) - Open Mic An open mic for word sayers, nay sayers and so-so spoken word artists (comedians, singers, preachers, etc.). Open Mic starts shortly after the slam ends. Details may vary week-by-week.
