Ages: 16+ Kinetic Sculptures with Ryan Woodall - think iron fidget spinners! Saturday, January 29- 10 a.m. - 4 p.m or Sunday, January 30- 10 a.m. - 4 p.mWhereas most classes offered at the Forge focus on the creation of practical objects such as hooks, knives, or fire pokers, this 6-hour class is designed to be a student's first foray into the world of sculpture and metal art. The course covers everything a student would need to know in order to create a piece of desktop sculpture which will balance precisely atop a forged steel base and spin for over a minute given the proper energy. Don't worry if this sounds intimidating. Whether you are looking to expand the reach of your artistic eye or you don't believe you have one, this class will provide ample instruction through demonstrations, example pieces, and hands on experience to allow even the newest metalworker to create a project that they will be proud to have made. Fee: $120 each day. Valentine Candlesticks: Crash Course Blacksmithing meets MIG Welding with Kris Graper Saturday, February 12- 10 a.m. - 4 p.mThis introductory class will focus on the safety and working basics of fabricating with metal, forges, anvils, MIG welders, and other metalworking tools. Participants will learn how to prep material as well as design, forge, fabricate, and finish individual candle sticks. Because of the short duration of this workshop, participants will work with a limited, but ample selection of materials that will be included with the class fee. Fee: $120 Valentine Pendants with Ryan Woodall Sunday, February 13- 10 a.m. - 4 p.mThis class offers a strong introduction to the craft of ornamental smithwork. During their time at the forge, students will create a decorative pendant designed to strung on a necklace. It is perfect as either and adventurous couple's date or to give an aspiring metalworker a handmade gift for that special someone. Beginners welcome! No experience required.
