From Your Arlington: Last Updated: 19 November 2020 Written by Leland Stein You are in luck: Ciclismo Classico is thrilled to present its 11th annual Bike Travel Film Festival worldwide at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19. While the spread of Covid-19 keeps us from enjoying the films together in person, we're excited to make our festival accessible to adventure-lovers anywhere in the world. You don't have to be a cyclist to enjoy these tales of explorers aged 5 to 75 enjoying the world and the outdoors, so tell your friends and family to log in, too. The festival shares nine unique films from all over the globe, many of which will celebrate their U.S. and world premiere at the event. Our Grand Jury Prize-winning film, Journey to West Africa, follows a Dutch cyclist on his ride from his home in the Netherlands through Europe and the Sahara Desert to the Ivory Coast. His good-natured attitude and cheerful storytelling won the hearts of all who have seen it. It's also family-friendly: all of the films would be rated G in any theater, and one is particularly educational about the "Buffalo Soldiers" who biked from Montana to St. Louis and back. Another will truly inspire, about a young Pakastani woman making her way up Mt. Kilimanjaro with her bike. The Regent Theatre, our longtime hosts, will be streaming the festival "live" for you to watch from the comfort of your own home. We are taking advantage of technology and will have feature virtual visits from some of our filmmakers, along with some of the commentary and door prizes you've come to expect from our festival. We'll even share some cookie recipes to keep you in the spirit of our famous Cookie Showcase! A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales for the online show will still go to our longtime beneficiary, Adventure Cycling Association. There will also be opportunities to make a donation to keep the lights on at the Regent Theatre until we can come back in person. Buy your tickets today and get ready to travel from Iowa to Scotland to Mt. Kilimanjaro without leaving home. Click here >> Note: All ticket-buyers for our postponed March show should have heard from the Regent about transferring their tickets. Our shows in Keene, N.H.; Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; Hayward, Wis.; Northampton, Mass.; and Portland, Maine, are postponed until further notice. A Boston Tribute to Elvis CostelloFriday, Nov. 20, at 7 p.m. All proceeds will go to the Regent Theatre After the successful 40 Years of Elvis Costello & Joe Jackson show of 2019, the Elvis Costello band returns in a special live streamed event to benefit the Regent Theatre.
